This folder contains various examples using the GUI libraries
installed on this Technologic Systems' Touch Panel Computer.
All examples were compiled using the native GNU development
environment installed on-board. All the required libraries
are also included in this Debian Linux distribution.

The examples are organized as shown below:

dfb-examples: samples using the DirectFB libraries
dfb-gtk-examples: samples using the GTK libraries on top of DirectFB
dfb-lite-examples: samples using the LiTE libraries on top of DirectFB
java-examples: samples using Java and the AWT classes
libx-examples: samples using the LibX libraries
libx-gtk-examples: samples using the GTK libraries on top of LibX

The examples are already compiled and a executable binary
is available for every project. Should you want to
recompile a example, this can be done on-board by typing
'make' in the specific folder. Avoid using 'make install'
so that no additional files will be installed on the main
distribution.

DirectFB Environment:
==============================================================
The DirectFB environment is installed on the default Linux
libraries locations. The GTK for DirectFB is installed under
/usr/gtkdfb.

There is no window manager installed for DirectFB. Use the
meta key (Windows Key) + mouse movement to move the window.
Refer to the DirectFB documentation for more options.

When running a DirectFB+GTK example, it is required to export
the appropriate LD_LIBRADY_PATH:
$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/gtkdfb/lib

In order to compile a DirectFB+GTK example:
$ export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH/pkgconfig
$ export CFLAGS="-g"

Also, some of the examples will require root privileges. Log
in as root or use the 'su' command.

Java Environment:
==============================================================
Java support is added through JamVM, the Java Virtual Machine,
and Jikes, the Java compiler. The classes file can be found at
/usr/share/jamvm/classes.zip.

In order to compile a Java program, use:
$ jikes-classpath classname.java

To run a Java class, use:
$ jamvm classname

Java requires Xorg to be running. Use the 'Xorg' or 'startx'
commands as root user in order to start Xorg.

Xorg Environment:
==============================================================
LibX examples require Xorg to be running. Use the 'Xorg' or
'startx' commands as root user in order to start Xorg.

The window manager installed for Xorg is the IceWM:
$ icewm
